With Lloyd as our guide, we toured his neighborhood, going to the Ikeja bus stop. Where those minivans that are the backbone of Lagos's transportation network stop.
 

LAGOS BUSSES

As at every place we stopped in Lagos...there is somebody there who thinks that a particular piece of public space belongs to him, if there are foreigners taking pictures of it. They want to be paid.  Lloyd ran interference....telling them that this was his neighborhood and that he was taking his friends on a tour.  We never paid anybody there, though Lloyd said it's something you have to deal with in Nigeria.  He keeps his payoff money in one pocket and his regular in the other.

Lloyd showed us the spot he called the "Bend Down Bookstore"It's an outdoor newstand where people come to catch up on the news by bending down and reading the headlines of the newspapers and magazine.  Often not buying.  Lloyd says he's frequently among them.

    What I'm told is a relatively new thing in Lagos is the taxi bikes.  These mini bikes can manneuver much better through the "go slow"s or traffic jams in Lagos...just the driver and one person sitting behind.  We saw these taxis everywhere we went in Nigeria.
